Who runs this

Counterweight Dispatch is an independent community and reference site for elevator and escalator professionals — not affiliated with any OEM, union, or safety authority. Our editor is a licensed elevator/escalator mechanic with more than 20 years in the trade, based in Vancouver, BC, who writes and verifies the site's guides and code references from field experience and primary sources.

Counterweight Dispatch is a project of Artificial Igknorance, which also builds Escalator Field Command, the inspection and service-history app for escalator technicians.

Why it exists

The elevator and escalator trade is one of the most specialized fields in construction and building services, yet it has almost no dedicated media and few plain-English references. Counterweight Dispatch exists to fix that: a forum for pros to swap field stories and ask questions, a newsletter covering the industry, and a growing library of guides — free, and written for both the mechanics doing the work and the building managers who hire them.

Accuracy & corrections

Every reference page is verified against a primary source — the safety authority's own page, the governing regulation, or an equivalent official document — and carries a last-verified date. Codes and regulations change, and mistakes happen. If you spot something wrong or out of date, we want to know.

The fastest way to flag it: post it on the forum. We read every correction and fix confirmed errors promptly.
